Virginia Department of Education · Opioid Abatement Education

Learning that turns awareness into action.

Six interactive, SCORM-compliant modules designed to help young people understand substance use, recognize risk, and practice healthier choices.

The challenge

How do you teach complex, sensitive material in a way that keeps learners engaged — and helps them act?

Opioid-abatement education has to do more than present facts. VDOE needed a connected series of modules that could make difficult topics approachable, invite active participation, work across screen sizes, and move reliably through a learning management system.

Six-part learning suite

Complex topics, made easier to understand.

The six-module sequence moves from foundational knowledge about addiction and the brain to social influence, refusal skills, emotional wellness, prevention, recovery, and community support. A shared visual and interaction system keeps the experience consistent from one topic to the next.

Active learning

Learning learners have to use — not just read.

Multiple-choice questions, true-or-false checks, scenarios, and immediate feedback turn key concepts into active decisions. The interactions reinforce understanding while giving learners a clear sense of progress throughout each module.

Built for every screen

The same learning experience, wherever it happens.

Responsive layouts keep questions, illustrations, navigation, and feedback clear on smaller screens — so learners can move through the modules on a phone, tablet, or computer without losing context or functionality.

Ready to deploy

Designed to work inside the learning ecosystem.

Each module follows a consistent path from instruction to practice to completion. SCORM-compliant delivery allows the suite to integrate with the learning management system and gives VDOE a dependable structure for assigning and tracking the training.
